Myofascial decompression

Myofascial decompression (MFD) is Western Medicine’s equivalent of Cupping in ancient Chinese treatment. Where Cupping focuses more on meridian pathways, MFD focuses on the mechanical aspects of the human body and is an adjunct treatment technique in the rehabilitative world.  MFD works in the decompression of adhesions which is effective in decreasing stiffness and pain, improving tissue health and increasing mobility.  This can be thru:

  • Decreasing mechanical connective tissue changes following inflammation and trauma after injury and/or surgery
  • Decreasing local tenderpoints
  • Decreasing myofascial dysfunction, scar adhesions and scar tissue following injury and/or surgery

MFD can be used in 3 different ways.

  • The cups can be applied in a static manner over specific areas where they are left on for 3-10 minutes.
  • They can also be applied statically then utilized with movement patterns and muscle retraining to reduce the restrictions. This is a more effective technique that allows freedom of movement thru specific biomechanical patterns.
  • A cup is applied then moved over certain muscle groups and/or areas of dysfunction to reduce adhesions over a larger area.

Come see us today for an assessment and determination of whether MFD will be effective for you.v
