Mechanical Diagnosis and Treatment (MDT)

The MDT (formerly the McKenzie Method) is not merely extension exercises. In its truest sense, MDT is a comprehensive approach to the spine based on sound principles and fundamentals that when understood and followed accordingly are very successful. In fact, most remarkable, but least appreciated, is the MDT assessment process.

Myofascial decompression

Myofascial decompression (MFD) is Western Medicine’s equivalent of Cupping in ancient Chinese treatment. Where Cupping focuses more on meridian pathways, MFD focuses on the mechanical aspects of the human body and is an adjunct treatment technique in the rehabilitative world.  MFD works in the decompression of adhesions which is effective in decreasing stiffness and pain, improving tissue health and increasing mobility.

Strain/Counterstrain:

Originally developed by an osteopathic physician, Lawrence Jones, DO, FAAO, strain-counterstrain technique is a method for reducing chronic and/or acute muscle spasm anywhere in the body. The big advantage of this technique is its extreme gentleness to the patient. The patient often wonders how this technique can work when the therapist does not seem to be “doing anything”.

Physical Capacity Evaluations:

In addition to out-patient Physical Therapy, we are now providing Job Specific Physical Capacity Evaluations (PCE) utilizing the Occupro system (occupro.net/software).  Occupro provides some of the most clear and concise information in easy-to-read graphs and charts indicating the readiness of your worker to return to work and at what level they are able to return.  Consistency of Effort and Reliability of Pain is automatically calculated throughout the test so you know exactly whether your client did their best and if you can use their subjective reports of pain to make functional decisions

MedX

MedX created exercise versions of its medical machines and branded them the Core Spinal Fitness System. In less than 20 minutes, twice a week, these four machines can help reduce or eliminate back pain by focusing on strength, stability, flexibility and endurance of the body’s core, providing a solid foundation for whole body strength.
